B.O.

...Imagine yourself in a moment; a single day of a seemingly endless and complex life...
...you awake at 3:am (although you're really not sleeping anyway)...
...you take a shower; get dressed; make coffee; brush your teeth...
...head to the door; smoke your first cigarette of the day while warming
your car for the mind-numbingly long drive to work...
...you arrive around 4:am; log on to THE MACHINE; start typing all the useless
reports that no one will ever read; print and fax immediately...
...you reluctantly decide to check your email; looking for problems that arose
from the time you left work the night before, til you clocked in this morning...
...it's bad (like everyday when you first check email)...
...fucking email...
...the phone starts ringing, which means it's probably 6:30 or 7:am...
...fucking phones...
...the bosses start to arrive and they look ready to go...
...it's about 7:30am now; you spend the next 4-hours dealing with the
emails; and the phone calls; and THE BOSSES,who don't seem
to know what's going on...ever...
...fucking bosses...
...you start to shake from all the coffee you drank this morning...
...must be lunchtime...
...you start across the street to grab some food...
...you think of your spouse and children...
...they probably won't see you today...
...just like the last few weeks...
...you don't feel like eating...
...you go back to work...
...the rest of your day is a repeat of everything that happened this morning...
...problems...problems...problems...
...it's getting dark; you're getting tired...
...decide to leave for the day...
...you start thinking on the mind-numbingly long drive home...
...IS IT WORTH IT?...
...is it worth not seeing your family?...
...watching your children grow up?...
...spending "in-out" time with the spouse?...
...you start to look around at the mind-numbing surroundings...
...you see big box buildings surrounded by treeless parking lots...
...adjacent treeless neighborhoods where every house is the same...
...look there--that neighborhood went up in 3-months...
...it sits empty...but it's still there co-existing in SPACE and TIME with YOU...
...you're apart of that...it's apart of you...
...you helped design, develop and build that empty neighborhood...
...and the school and big box and treeless parking lot...
...you're responsible for that mess...
...is IT worth it?...
...you get home...
...it's dark...
...it's quiet...
...it's late...
...you go to bed...
..."is IT worth it?" (the last thing you say before passing out)...
...you awake at 3:am (although you're really not sleeping anyway)...
...you take a shower; get dressed; make coffee...
